In partnership with Foursquare Missions International (FMI), Life Pacific University is launching new online certificate programs for leaders to receive high-quality education at an unbeatable price. With the launch of the certificate program, LPU seeks to fill a need for low cost, professional development tools to help leaders in their path to growth and success.

Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Daniel Ruarte states, “LPU has been praying about launching a certificate program for a long time but has been waiting for the right moment and partner to launch the program.” He goes on, “Last year, we were approached by North America Area Missionary, Emily Plater, (now Director of Shared Mission) from Foursquare Mission International (FMI), with the need for practical training in biblical studies for Bhutanese pastors and leaders in the Colorado area. We felt this was the perfect opportunity to move forward and explore this new opportunity.”

The pilot launch will offer students a Certificate in Biblical Foundations, completed entirely online and taught by LPU faculty. Courses include Understanding the Biblical Story, Developing Skills for Biblical Interpretation, Getting to Know the Biblical Audience & Cultural Background, and The Life & Ministry of Jesus. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to participate in virtual webinars and events to connect with others in the program.

Students who graduate from this four-course certificate may qualify for up to 9 units of transfer credit into one of LPU’s online BA programs, which makes this a great introductory pathway for those looking to further their training and education.

Dr. Ruarte explains that the goal of the LPU certificate programs, in the future, is to work with partners in the field to develop custom-made certificates that fill the needs of the field. “In this case, the FMI leadership was looking for competencies in biblical studies, but we recognize that there are additional needs that may arise.” The pilot version of the program will be open to a select group of ministers in Foursquare's Central District, coordinated with FMI. Following the pilot launch of the program with FMI, the LPU team hopes to officially open the certificate by fall of 2021 or spring of 2022 for additional partners.

Director of Foursquare Missions International, Ted Vail, sees this partnership and the new certificate program as a "dream come true." He says, "It will equip leaders, certainly with our Bhutanese ministers, and all that will come after them. Our leaders were asking, 'Can you help us?' And LPU answered the call and said, 'Yes. We will help.' When we say, ‘OneTeam’, this is how it is expressed with all of us on mission together."

President Angie Richey says, “We believe this is the first of many certificates that we will launch and are thrilled to be able to offer unique, customizable programs as another options for students to receive biblical education and training. Whether students choose to enroll in our on-campus programs, church partner programs, or our new online certificate programs, we are committed to developing leaders who serve God around the world.”
