-
Visualize the person on the other end of the telephone when you speak to them.
-
Smile. You will be amazed at how this changes your tone of voice.
-
Research the ministries that you will be conducting interviews with. The best way to spend idle phone time is speaking about the ministry. This will also show your enthusiasm to work for them.
-
Keep the energy level up. You don't want the person on the other end of the phone to fall asleep.
-
A good tactic is to have note cards handy with answers to certain questions on them. Don't write the entire answer out, because then it will sound like you are reading. Simply put the few ideas you want to express and you will never be caught off guard.
-
Speak directly into the telephone.
-
Make sure you never call the interviewer by his or her first name until you are asked to do so.
-
Don't engage in other activities that will hinder your speech such as eating or chewing gum, listening to music, watching TV.
-
Take notes. You should be able to learn by the end of the interview the correct spelling of the interviewer's name, and everything you wanted to know about the position.
-
Turn off call waiting on your phone (if you knew they were going to call)
-
Have a glass of water handy just in case your mouth dries out.
