Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What are my ministry requirements?
  2. At this point, the two requirements are chapel attendance and church involvement.  You must declare your home church each semester for our documentation purposes.  The church involvement criterion is currently in development.  More information will be posted when available.

  3. How many chapels am I allowed to miss?
  4. This semester (Fall 2008) there are 32 chapels scheduled.  An allowance is made for students to miss up to 6 chapels due to illness or other unexpected absence.  Therefore, in order to pass chapel requirements, students must attend at least 26 chapel services.

  5. How do I make up chapels if I miss too many?
  6. If at the end of the semester, you have not attended enough chapel services to pass your ministry formation requirements, you are able to listen to a chapel message online, and turn in a double spaced, 1 page summary/reflection of the service in order to receive credit for a missed chapel.

  7. What are the requirements I need to meet in order to apply for an internship?
  8. In order to be eligible to apply for an internship, you need a minimum GPA of 2.0, be up to date on your ministry formation requirements, and have a pastor’s recommendation.

  9. What are my requirements for involvement in an internship?
  10. You would need to provide personal round trip transportation from LIFE to the location of the internship, commit to 8-10 weeks of service at the church in addition to attendance of Sunday and midweek services, and complete written assignments for the type of internship in which you participate.

  11. Do I receive credit for completing an internship?
  12. Yes.  A completed internship is worth 2 units.  All units earned through an internship are free tuition.

  13. I don’t know what churches are nearby.  How do I find a church?
  14. A good place to start is with our ministry ally churches.  Please see the link find a church to look through some of their websites.

  15. How do I become licensed through the foursquare denomination?  Is it better to be licensed while I am here or should I wait and go through my church?
  16. If you are a senior you are eligible to sign up for the Foursquare polity course, where you will have an opportunity to easily complete all your requirements for receiving an international foursquare license.  Going through the licensing process while at the school will save you hours of work.  We promise.  For more information, click here.

  17. What kind of internships may I choose from, and are all of them in the states?
  18. Currently, there are internships available for churches, para-church organizations, and summer camps.  For international internship opportunities, please see Jessica Chai (ext 344).

  19. I’m a senior and I will be looking for placement when I graduate.  What ministry jobs are available?
  20. We are so glad you asked!  Please see the link entitled Placement Opportunities to see current ministry availability.  The list is updated weekly.

  21. Do I have to keep declaring my church if I have gone to the same one for a couple of years?
  22. In an effort to keep our records as up to date as possible, and considering the many life changes our students may go through during their time here at LIFE, we ask that church declarations be completed at the beginning of each semester.

  23. How do I find out how many chapels I have been to?
  24. You may easily check how many chapels you have attended when you slide your card to check in for the service.  Under your name, you will see a number next to the phrase “chapels attended.”  If you have further questions, please visit the Office of Student Life.
