How Does Independent Study Work?

Once you are approved and payment is received, your course(s) will be sent to you. You will receive everything you will need to complete the course: textbooks, study guides, assignments, and course materials. Exams will be sent to the student's monitor upon the student's request. The course materials contain instructions to guide the student through the assignments.

All courses consist of exams, an Individual Study Assignment and an Action Project. The student is carefully directed through a series of study guides covering the textbook and biblical material to prepare for the examinations. Exams are monitored by the student's pastor or someone on the church staff. The Individual Study Assignment takes one aspect of the material already studied and examines it in-depth. The Action Project takes the subject material learned and applies it in a practical way to the local church setting or the community. The Individual Study Assignment and/or Action Project may require interaction with the pastor and teaching a small group within your home church.

A faculty representative is available for each course to provide guidance and counsel. Lessons should be submitted regularly to complete the course within a six month deadline. If more time is needed, the student can pay a $25 fee for a six month extension on their coursework. We recommend that the student take no more than two courses at one time. Work submitted for grading will normally be returned to the student within two or three weeks after it is received. When the course is completed, a letter is sent indicating the grade earned.
