Students are exempt from the chapel requirements if they have less than 12 units, giving them part-time student status. No petition is needed.

All other students may petition to be excused from chapel requirements if they meet the following criteria:

  • Their work dictates that they cannot attend chapel. Employer verification will need to be provided.
  • They are a commuter who lives more than 10 miles away from campus and does not have class immediately before or after chapel.

In order for students to be excused from chapel requirements they will need to submit a petition to the Office of Student Life by 4:30pm on the Friday of the first full week of classes. Petitions can be picked up from the Office of Student Life or downloaded off this website. The following documents will need to be turned in with the petition:

  • A signed letter from your supervisor on company letterhead OR
  • A copy of your class schedule and a copy of directions from the school to your house with the mileage highlighted.

Separate petitions must be submitted for each individual required chapel event (i.e. Wednesday chapels, Fall Retreat, etc.). Petitions for events such as Fall Retreat or Day of Prayer must be submitted to the Office of Student Life at least a week in advance.
Any petition received after the deadline will still be considered, but will only be valid to excuse absences from the date it is received. The student will be held responsible for any absences accrued up to that date. No late petitions will be accepted for Fall/Spring Retreat or Day of Prayer. Additionally, any students submitting petitions after the deadline* will be charged a late fine according to the following time line:

  • Within 30 days, $50
  • 31-59 days, $75
  • 60+ days, $125

*Petitioning students who begin employment after the petition due date will not be subject to this late fine. Petitions must be submitted within one working week of hired date.

Please Note:
No petition will be automatically approved.

PETITIONS ARE VALID FOR ONE SEMESTER ONLY!

The Office of Student Life will notify petitioning students of the decision by letter approximately seven days after the Friday of the first full week of classes each semester. However, chapel attendance is the student's responsibility. If no response has been received within seven days, it is the student's responsibility to contact The Office of Student Life immediately. All correspondence will be sent to the student's LPC mailbox.
