Cross-Cultural Ministry Minor

GOALS:
This minor serves as preparation for the student who anticipates any kind of ministry in a cross-cultural context, either within or outside the United States.

Upon completion of this program a student should:

• demonstrate an understanding of the biblical pattern of the nature, form, and purpose of the church and how to apply it to another culture,
• demonstrate an ability to communicate the basic truths of Scripture in the thought forms and patterns of other cultures, while distinguishing them from forms and patterns of the student’s own culture,
• apply language learning skills in a variety of cultures,
• demonstrate the use of various spiritual gifts and ministries in a cross-cultural context,
• practice respect and acceptance for another culture by being flexible and adapting to life in that culture,
• demonstrate the ability for discerning the moral and amoral elements in another culture,
• articulate an understanding of the importance of avoiding the errors of syncretism or paternalism.
