BACHELOR OF ARTS - BIBLICAL STUDIES
Counseling Ministry Minor

GOALS:
This minor is offered for the student who is pursuing ministry as a pastoral or professional Christian counselor in a local church or parachurch setting.

Upon completion of this program a student should:

  • display the ability to focus on the personal care ministry in the church,
  • have a solid biblical foundation from which to pursue further education in counseling,
  • acquire pastoral skills necessary for the development of healthy interpersonal relationships,
  • be able to train lay caregivers within a congregation,
  • exhibit the ability to use effective, compassionate, pastoral counseling skills,
  • manifest personal integrity and discipline,
  • model a consistent pattern of personal and spiritual growth,
  • demonstrate careful stewardship of his/her personal time and resources, including family relationships and finances,
  • have a working knowledge of Christian counseling in the context of the counseling process, counseling relationship, legal and ethical issues, and skills and techniques,
  • become more aware of himself or herself as a counselee and the therapeutic process from a counselee’s perspective,
  • develop a philosophy of counseling and counseling style unique to him/her,
  • recognize and explore issues that enhance an understanding of the counseling profession and its uniqueness in the mental health field, along with its applicability to Christianity.
