BACHELOR OF ARTS - BIBLICAL STUDIES
Goals for the Biblical Studies Programs
Upon the completion of a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies, graduates of Life Pacific College should be able to:
Knowledge
- describe the Bible's major characters and events,
- summarize the Bible's principal theological themes,
- master the principles of inductive and deductive Bible study,
Skills
- defend the Bible's authority as a guide for matters of faith and practice,
- master the method of theological synthesis: from the exegesis of Biblical texts to systematic theology,
- apply exegetical and hermeneutical methodologies to the study of any type of Biblical text,
- formulate theological positions,
Values
- display inquisitiveness, humility, and reverence in the pursuit and presentation of Biblical truth,
- allow Scripture to transform their lives through the power of the Holy Spirit,
- value the necessary connection between exegesis, theology, and exposition.
Minors
The college believes practical preparation for ministry is of great importance. This is developed through the inclusion of specific subject matter of a practical nature taught in several core and professional classes in a chosen area of study. Students may choose from the following areas:
- Pastoral Ministry
- Youth Ministry
- Children’s Ministry
- Cross-Cultural Ministry
- Music & Worship Ministry
- Counseling Ministry
- Biblical Exegesis
- Education
Students who do not desire to get a minor may enroll in the General Biblical Studies Program.
GENERAL BIBLICAL STUDIES PROGRAM
GOALS:
This program is designed for people who desire to be involved in one of the diverse leadership roles existing within the Christian community.
Upon completion of this program a student should:
- exhibit a depth of understanding of biblical content, theological synthesis, and hermeneutical practice as spelled out in the goals for biblical studies majors,
- understand the value of the major fields of knowledge from a biblical framework and possess the desire and foundation necessary to be a lifelong learner,
- possess the skills necessary for ministry to people inside and outside of the local church, particularly pastoral care-giving and excellence in written and oral communication,
- integrate education, spiritual life, and life-experience into a consistent pattern of personal spiritual growth affecting character and values.
