ASSOCIATE OF ARTS - GENERAL STUDIES
64-Unit Program in General Studies
Although this program is comprised of the lower division curriculum for the full undergraduate degree, it is offered as a distinct program of general studies for
students who:
(1) do not plan to pursue further training, or
(2) plan to pursue a different major at another college or university, or
(3) have already had training in another field.
GOALS:
Upon completion of this program, students should be able to:
Essential Skills
• communicate effectively in writing and speaking,
• understand how communication is affected through visual and performing arts,
• demonstrate general mathematical competency,
• display proficiency in academic research,
• develop basic technological skills for writing, research, and presentation,
• show skillful comprehension when reading and listening,
• develop a vocational career path,
Knowledge/Understanding
• develop a discriminating appreciation of literature, history, and the Arts,
• understand fundamental scientific concepts, language, and issues,
• acquire knowledge and appreciation of Western and other cultures,
• understand basic human needs, defenses, conflicts, and motivations,
• interpret and understand the uses for data,
• understand the basic elements necessary for rudimentary biblical interpretation,
Higher Order Thinking Skills
• exhibit an ability to critically evaluate diverse problems and positions in various fields of study,
• identify the practical application of theory and theology,
• comprehend and apply leadership principles,
• integrate knowledge and concepts across academic fields,
Values Development
• affirm the cardinal tenets of Pentecostal/Charismatic faith,
• commit themselves to growth in relationship with God, humanity, and His creation,
• exercise authority with Godly wisdom,
