licensing process stages

1. Application
Student submits application, fee, photo, ID verification, and three references.

2. Acceptance
The ARC processes paperwork and performs a background check. If application and references are approved, if the background check is clear, and if candidate is approved by the District Supervisor (President Dan Stewart, until you have an appointment), then the applicant moves to CANDIDACY STATUS.  The ARC will mail an FLPG (Foursquare Licensing Process Guide) and email polity log-in and password info to the Candidate.

3 & 4. Coaching and Polity Self-Study
There is a course available at LIFE which covers the material in the FLPG. As part of this course, each candidate must meet with an individual coach for personal mentoring to complement the classroom time, and take the online Polity course. Through the class, personal study, the online polity course, and meeting with a coach, the Candidate will review all 35 sections of the FLPG (23 doctrine, 12 polity). This process prepares the candidate for the interview.

5. Interview
Every candidate is required to face a lengthy interview with three Licensed Ministers, at least one of whom must be a senior pastor. As part of the Licensing class, candidates will prepare for this. See the Licensing Coordinator about scheduling the interview.

The Coach is encouraged to attend the interview, but it is not required. It is up to the Candidate and the Coach to decide if the coach will be present at the interview. The coach’s role in the interview process is to indicate questions from each section (doctrine, practical, polity) that the panel should ask the Candidate to best understand their readiness for Licensing, and if they attend, the coach can help the candidate understand questions being asked and remember what was discussed in coaching.

This is a version of what a person may encounter in a job interview with a church council. Take this as a good practice opportunity. A candidate may know what the panel will ask in a Licensing Interview, but will not know what a church council might ask! Be prepared “in season and out of season!”

6. Approval
The Interview Panel will submit a worksheet after the interview with their observations and any concerns. The Coach will also indicate their personal recommendation for acceptance or refusal.

  1. The Licensing Coordinator will send these worksheets to the ARC.
  2. The ARC sends them to the District Supervisor over the place where the Candidate has been appointed.
  3. The Supervisor will make the final recommendation to the Foursquare Board for the candidate to receive an International License.
  4. The Foursquare Board will approve the candidate or recommend further coaching before receiving a license.

7. Notification
You will be notified by the ARC or the District Supervisor of your approval, and will be sent your license in the mail. Be sure to keep your address updated in your licensing file!

8. Appointment
Your appointment becomes official when you are approved for licensing. If you finish the coaching and interview and still do not have an appointment, your forms will stay at the ARC and you will not go through the approval process or be issued a license until you have an appointment.
